How geography effects Clothing
Link:Tell students, we have been talking about different types of needs the American Indians had when they were around. Another need they had to fulfill would have been clothing. Turn and talk, what do you think the American Indians would have made their clothing out of?
Engage: Read through the Powhatan life story again, focusing on the clothing. Make copies of page where the American Indian clothing is shows. As you explain what each object is have students using clip boards and pencils diagram the clothes by what they are made of. This will be a good reference while they are creating their project.
Active: Students have the choice to represent American Indian Fashion in any way they choose. Whether is be creating an outfit out of cloth, Drawing a picture, writing a story about what they would wear, making a poster diagramming the outfit, or creating a song or skit.
Reflect: Students will present their representation to the class, whether they display it as a gallery walk or present their song or skit to the whole class.
Now and then: Tomorrow we are going to be looking at the jobs American Indians have.
